Where were you born? Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania, USA
Do you come from a musical family?
My father played banjo,my mother played
piano, my brother played flute and my
grandfather could play anything.
What was your very first stage
appearance?
I played at the Whisky a Go Go with a
band called Bootleg. It was the single
most life changing event up until the
birth of my kids.
Which bassist do you most admire?
There a re several but my top 3 are Paul
McCartney, John Paul Jones and James
Jamerson.
What gear do you have?
I have an original 1970's tube head that
weighs about 15lbs less than I do which
is why I usually use my Gallien-Kruger
400RB and a 4 x 10 Ampeg cabinet. I play
a 1974 Fender Precision and have a 1983
Precision back-up. I also have a
glorious 1966 Gibson non-reversed
Thunderbird (Polaris white). It's like
the holy grail and I rarely take it out
of it's case. I own a custom precision
style BC rich with active pick-ups that
I will be lending to a friend's 14 year
old daughter (to spawn another girl
bassist).
. . . and your current band?
I have been playing with Hardly
Dangerous for 18 years. Lead singer Tomi
Rae is my musical soul mate and I am her
biggest fan. I've recently begun playing
in another all girl band called
Absinthe. The girls are all so sweet and
so much fun!
What other bands have you played
with?
I've played in Bootleg, Loaded, The
Minstrel Cycles, The lonely Hearts,
Summer's Evil & Atomic Boy.

Bass:
A Fender Jazz bass. Even though that is
a very normal specimen, mine is as
unique as can be. I covered it all up in
coloured scraps from my friends
childhood. I used nail polish as
glue/lacquer (You would be surprised
how efficient that can be!)
Amp:
An old
Roland studio bass 100. Looks just like
a huge treasure chest - but it surely
sounds like thunder. The best one I ever
had!
Effects:
A friend who is quite a wonder when it
comes to technology, made me a handmade
fuzz like pedal for my birthday. I adore
it, no one else has my sound! And a Boss
overdrive.
Band:
Darling Don't Dance
Former bands:
Great
Hams From Sky, The Virtual Valentinas,
Little Yells Alot
Favourite bands:
Arctic Monkeys, Figurines, The Kills,
Smashing Pumpkins, Sleater Kinney, Yeah
Yeah Yeahs, Postal Service.
Other instrument?
Guitar

Where were you born?
I was born in Howell, Michigan, USA.
Do you come from a musical family?
My family has a few amazing voices (I'm
definitely not one of them:). My great
grandfather played piano beautifully by
ear, and my mother plays violin and
clarinet.
What was your very first stage
appearance?
My first stage appearance as a bassist
was in my current band, The Pussy
Pirates. I had played as a stand-in
bassist for a radio show with another
act a couple of months before that.
Which bassist do you most admire?
I fell in love with Sara Lee while
listening to the Indigo Girls at twelve
years old. She is an accomplished solo
musician, but it is her ability to step
into a song and add something special
makes her my absolute favorite.
Tell us about your gear?
My bass, named after Joan Jett, is a
4-string Yamaha B-series. It's natural
woodgrain that I wood-burned with
leopard print spots. I have been lucky
enough to receive free hot-pink strings
from DR and a local music store for the
last year. My strap is a re-used studded
leather biker belt that I had altered to
fit the bass. I'm not picky about amps,
I own two, of which the Ampeg Rocket
Bass is totally my favorite!
Tell us about your current band.
I joined The Pussy Pirates a month
before our first show in October 2004.
We are a radical post-punk/no wave band
of four women and one male. We have two
saxophones, a trumpet, drums, guitar and
bass. Since 2004 we've put out two
studio albums, a 7", and toured many of
the lower 48 states of USA and into
Canada. We are planning a new album and
supporting tour this Autumn.
What other bands have you played
with?
I have made stand-in appearances in Hey
There Cowboy (West Coast Tour '07) of
Minneaplois, MN, USA. and two other acts
from Ann Arbor, MI, USA. I was also in a
short-lived band in 2006 called "If It
Ain't Nailed Down..." with the former
guitarist of the Pussy Pirates.
What is your latest CD/album?
Our latest release, recorded at Big Sky
Studio in Ann Arbor, is titled "Eat My
Brain, Call it Art". We are currently
working on a live album.
