Where were you born?
I was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana,
USA.
Do you come from a musical family?
I come from a family that was kind of
musical, but no professional musicians.
My dad occasionally played guitar and my
mom used to play clarinet and piano. I
played piano/keyboard as a kid and later
moved to bass (after trying guitar,
drums, sax, and accordion).
What was your very first stage
appearance?
My first stage appearance was with a
church choir in first or second grade.
It was absolutely terrifying, as they
had me sing a solo, and I had never been
in front of hundreds of people before.
My first time performing on stage with a
bass was at a pizza place in NoHo. I
might have been playing for a year at
the most. It was scary, but the people
liked it. Our next gig was at a festival
for $$$ and wasn't scary at all!
Which bassist do you most admire?
The bassist I most admire is Steve
Harris. I love to play along to the Iron
Maiden stuff!!
Tell us about your gear.
I mostly play Spector basses, and am one
of their artistes. I have a 5-string
fretless and three 5-string fretted
ones. I also have a Fender P-Bass that
is very custom. I made the pickguard out
of an airplane cowling, and put my own
inlays as well. The cowling came off of
a plane who's nickname is "Kermit". That
plane still flies out of Santa Monica! I
recently got a Hofner, which was just
for fun, but now I gig with it sometimes
too!
Tell us about your current band.
I'm currently playing with Blonde Jovi.
The band started out as a joke, but
people really liked it. We are all
blonde girls and play anywhere from
small clubs to casinos and fairs. Its
one of the funniest projects I've worked
on! We are even going to be featured in
Hustler Magazine later this year! We're
the article, with some cool pix!!! I
also play with my original band,
Stattica, as well as a metal cover band
that plays Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, &
AC/DC. In my other spare time, I like to
sub for bands if their bass player can't
make a gig.
What other bands have you played
with?
I've played with alot of bands, either
as a member or as a sub. Some of the
bands include The Singles, Love Bat,
Uncle Nancy, The Crashers, Mz Led, Flesh
Cartoons, Logan05, Twist of Fate,
Aeroplane Soul,
Relax to
Paris,
to name a few... It's a
long list, I can't name them all!
What is your latest CD/album?
My lastest CD is with Stattica. I've
recorded several albums with them. It
should be out later this year.
What are your hobbies?
I am also a pilot, so I post everything
from music to flying videos to random
pictures on my website. Check some of
the videos out - you'll find some
interesting stuff there! I even have one
up from when we went flying in the
Goodyear Blimp!

Where were you born Joy?
Hallo! I come from the sunny Italy! I
was born in a medieval small city in
Umbria called Narni.
Do you come from a musical family?
Luckily I come a creative family: my
mommy was a painter and my daddy was a
guitarist. My parents have teach me to
love all kind of arts, music especially.
What was
your very first stage appearance?
My first concert was seven years ago. It
was the final exhibition of a musical
school. At that time I was still
learning how to play the electric bass.
Everything started from a rock passion!
Which
bassist do you most admire?
When I started my idol was flea ( from
RHCP). At that time I was a crazy punky
girl! Then I started studying and
listening to different kinds of music.
When finally I approached jazz, my
favourite bassist become Mr. Ron Carter.
When I met him I was 18 years old.
Tell us about your
instruments/amp/gear?
My double bass is an old instrument from
1820, it was handmade in Germany and is
a ¾. My best pickup is a Realist but I'm
thinking also about a Fishman. My
electric bass is a Fender Jazz bass USA
from 80's. My amp is the best:
Gallienkrueger!
What bands/ensembles do you play
with?
I play with different jazz bands. We
love to play standards, mostly. My
"Inner Urge" should be a new project for
my first sextet. I'm workin' hard about
it! I'm also a composer and I'm trying
to compose all the scores for this
project . .We'll see!
I played classical
with several orchestras, my last
experience was in Germany four months
ago. I played in the Humboldt symphonic
and Jung philharmonic Berlin orchestra.
I loved it!
What are your hobbies outside
music?
I love drawing ,relaxing, reading. Books
and films are really a good company for
me. I like to stay alone because I like
peace, but I also love my friends and my
family. They say that I'm a really good
cooker and I love cooking, most of all
sweets.
What is
your latest CD/album?
We are still working about our new
recording: "Hearthing". It will be a nu-jazz
oriented Cd with some of my best friend,
great Italian musicians. I hope it will
be produced soon!
